Ah the
good golden days of Saraswati Puja! It was a fun filled day for all school and
college students. The celebration always started one day before in different
schools and colleges as well as in homes. Goddess Saraswati is known as the embodiment
of knowledge, art and entertainment. Every year, during the day of Vasant Panchami, Goddess Saraswati is
worshipped with grandeur. To revive this festive mood, girls from different
backgrounds come out from their own shell and try to become the best
fashionista for a single day.
In
Eastern India, this day is also remarked as a Valentine’s Day for different
young couples. So, without wasting much of time, here I bring you some of the
exclusive quotes from the girls of different generations and how they look upon
this day in terms of fashion, beauty, food and celebration.
Here are the excerpts:
GenY Kids- In the words of 5 years old
kid name Chalisa, “For me, Saraswati Puja is all about Yellow Saree and Kichuri
(khichdi)”.
90’s Kids- It’s my age and my time and
this day for me was “no study” day, shopping with Papa to buy different Puja
accessories, Saraswati idol, then making different flower garlands for Puja. I
read in Convent School so there was nothing like going to School or wearing
saree, and it was kind of family time with cousins, and great food straight
from Mommy’s Kitchen.
80’s Kids- In the words of my Mother, the
day starts at home offering Puja, then going to school (Bengali medium),
the whole day engagement with friends and teachers in the school. Participation
in different cultural events and whole lot of fun with friends wearing sari
from mother’s wardrobe.
70’s Kids- In the words of MIL, “the day for her was going to school (Bengali medium) wearing different sari and not any school dress, no restriction from parents, taking part in cultural programme and enjoy the day with close friends.”
Till
today, the vibe of Saraswati Puja remains the same. Girls are seen in their
best outfits and makeup not only to impress her group, but also to catch the
attention of the Boys. So, have fun with friends and families on 1st February 2017 and I wish you Happy Saraswati Puja and let goddess
bestow knowledge, power and success in your kitty.
